Basketball outreach and team building
Jaguars coaches have been going in to schools delivering wheelchair sports sessions and team building for over 20 years.
Wheelchair basketball in schools promotes inclusion by allowing students of all abilities to play together while developing teamwork, communication, and resilience. It also builds strength, coordination, and confidence, helping students stay active and having fun. This is all whilst increasing their disability sport awareness, it is a real leveller and put everyone on an even playing field.

As part of our school’s celebrations for National School Sports Week, we invited Jags WBC to come and work with our Year 6 children (58), as part of our theme focussing on inclusion. It was such a memorable experience for both the children and staff alike, who enjoyed every single minute. As a learning experience, the children came away more knowledgeable, informed and enthusiastic about disability, inclusion and the sport itself. For me, as a PE lead, it was great to see so many pupils who are less enthusiastic about sport, being completely engrossed in the activity and playing with a smile on their faces.

Wheelchair basketball is great for team building and the coaches have run sessions for groups of 6 to over 60 and mini tournaments from 4 to 16 teams. The session have been extremely popular with everyone who has had a go. A common comment is, “I’m none sporty and didn’t enjoy sport at school, but I really enjoyed playing wheelchair basketball today and would like to do it again.” It is a great way to integrate the whole organisation in a truly inclusive sport.
Find out why wheelchair basketball is the largest disability sport in the world.
We now have three trailers full of chairs through an agreement with Active Lincolnshire to enable us to deliver more sessions.
